From mid-September to mid-May, the Cape Hiking Committee offers about 100 hikes, from Bourne to Provincetown, and varying from the hills of the moraine to sandy beaches. They are a unique way to see parts of Cape Cod that few experience, as well as an opportunity for great exercise. All hikes are led by experienced Leaders and are "show and go" (no registration is necessary). However a Leader may deny one's participation for safety, medical, or reasons of inadequate preparation for the weather. Leaders will be happy to answer questions, and to provide driving directions or a last-minute update if inclement weather might cancel a hike. Children are welcome but must be of school age and accompanied by at least one parent. Dogs are not allowed. Water should be carried, weather-appropriate outerwear and terrain-appropriate footwear should be worn, and all hikers should be aware of the possibility of encountering deer ticks (the carriers of Lyme Disease) and poison ivy while anywhere on Cape Cod.
Most hikes are held on the following days:
Thursday mornings from 10:00-12:00, meeting at 9:45
Saturday from 10:00-2:00, meeting at 9:45; lunch stop included
Sunday afternoon from 1:00-3:00, meeting at 12:45
In general the Thursday hike is the easiest, followed by Sunday's, while Saturday's hike is usually more challenging as well as longer. Hikes begin promptly on time, and usually end close to the listed time.
Hikes are not scheduled during the summer months because of the parking restrictions imposed by each town, and the requirement to have a resident sticker to park at many of the parking areas. We do offer a monthly evening Full Moon hike during the three summer months, usually from 7:00 to 9:00 PM.
For information about upcoming hikes, please click on "schedule" above, and for more information about the hike, contact the listed Leader. For any other information about Cape Hikes, please contact the Chair.
