Cape Hiking

The Cape Hike Committee offers hikes on Cape Cod varying from walks in the woods with moderate hills to pristine sandy beaches. These hikes provide a unique way to experience the beauty and nature of Cape Cod. All hikes are led by experienced AMC leaders and are at a moderate pace.

Typically hikes are held from September to May on the following days, however the schedule/times may vary.

  • Thursday morning - 10:00 approximately two hours, meeting at 9:45
  • Sunday afternoon - 1:00 approximately two hours, meeting at 12:45
  • Saturday - occasional hikes, for meeting times and duration see schedule

Hikes are posted on AMC’s Activity Data Base (https://activities.outdoors.org). Hikes may be pre-registered on the AMC website, pre-registered with the leader by email, or show and go at the discretion of the leader.  Check for participant numbers and form of registration in the hike description.  In any of the hike options, each participant must sign an individual release of AMC liability, either electronically or in writing.   The general policy is no dogs but is left to the discretion of the leader – you must inquire before being given consideration on this issue.  Any individual under 18 years of age must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Occasionally a hike will have a particular focus or point of interest - picnic, potluck, turtle search, whale viewing, rare vegetation, geological, historical interest or insight into the lives of Cape Cod ancestors.  “Full moon” hikes are offered during the summer months at dusk usually the night before the full moon (see the schedule on Activity Data Base link above for time and place).

Hikes will leave promptly as scheduled. Be on time! Come equipped with mask, water and snacks, sturdy, comfortable footwear, insect repellent, and adequate clothing for changes in the weather. Inspection for ticks after each hike is important. Rain, snow/icy conditions generally cancel a hike. If in doubt, call or email the leader.

Your safety and that of all hikers is of prime importance. Be aware that an individualʼs actions and physical limitations could affect all participants. Address questions or concerns about an upcoming hike to the leader.

Come, exercise, and enjoy the hikes on Cape Cod!

Some AMC programs are designed for a certain age range of members or for a special activity or topic. However, any person who meets the minimum qualifications (skills, experience, fitness) established by the trip leader(s) for an activity is eligible to attend, if space is available."
